Purdue Lecture and Workshop Report
This past weekend Make Like A Tree Comics (Jerzy and myself) traveled to Fort Wayne Indiana and gave our lecture and workshop at Purdue. Friday evening was scheduled for our formal lecture. It covered how we got into comics, our processes, options for self-publishers and alternative ways to make a living doing freelance illustration. Here we are about to begin.
Further into the talk, Jerzy is talking about the tools of his processes. And I should note that the banter flowed quite easily and comfortably between the two of us. This was the first time for us giving a presentation together…but all our preparations worked out splendidly! 
After the lecture…and after we took questions from the crowd…we headed down to the gallery that has been hosting our work for the past month. There we got to meet and greet with people. There was also a book signing. All our books were for sale. The cool part was that unlike traditional signings, we were allowed to walk around and mingle while folks brought the books to us to sign. I loved that!

The next morning…early Saturday morning, that is…we held our workshop. We gave a brief comics overview, showing examples of what we think are creative uses of the medium. And then we went right into the fun stuff! We created scripts with the audience and drew panel layouts from there. After, we took questions from the crowd.
And again, talked with attendees after.
I can’t stress enough how nice everything went. I’ll admit, I was nervous going into it, but everything flowed perfectly. The crowd had tons of questions and genuinely seemed excited about what we were there to do. And I walked away feeling a little more confident in not only my public-speaking skills, but why I do comics. I really appreciate everyone at the school that helped promote and organize these events!
